Grooming and Hair Care Tips for Men

2010 is set to be an incredibly stylish year for men. Men`s fashion focuses on traditional and classic looks with a modern twist. Looks will centre around the 1920s and 1930s styles. This means an extremely well groomed appearance is necessary.

Similarly, men`s hair fashion will revolve around classic cuts and styles. The key is to look refined and suave. Traditional styles will certainly be in, so get your inspiration from 19th century Britain. One Key trend is the fringe. The fringe comes in many different styles to suit different face shapes. Side swept fringes, however, are set to be most popular. This cut has been all over the catwalks recently and is likely to continue into the future.

It is very important that you take time to style your fringe. Fringes this season are all about texture, so it is important you style your hair correctly to achieve this. When at the hairdressers, make sure to ask for layers in your fringe, this will make it much easier to style. When styling your hair, add some wax and tousle with the tips of your fingers to create more texture.

Another key men`s hair trend this year is the slicked back look. This has been seen on celebrities such as George Clooney and more recently, Zac Efron. This is an old fashioned style and you can use some old fashion products to achieve your perfect look. Try using some Brylcream to slick the hair back, this will give you a perfect `wet` look. This look is ideal for those who have straight hair. Those who have wavy or curly hair should steer clear unless they have plenty of time for styling in the mornings. If you do have curly hair, but want to give this a go, you should consider having your hair chemically straightened to save time.

Whatever your style, it can be difficult to choose male grooming products. Gel is often the favourite of men who haven`t a clue when it comes to grooming. However, it can be useful in some situations. For example, gel is excellent when wanting to achieve great hold alone. If you have wavy hair make sure you get a light hold gel as this will emphasise your style. Make sure you don`t put too much gel on as it can sometimes turn flaky and give a unattractive appearance.

Wax on the other hand, is an excellent product for those who want to give their hair more texture. It is perfect for those who want to look well groomed, making it ideal for this season. However, avoid wax if you have curly hair.

The final main styling product for men is cream. Cream is ideal if you are looking to achieve shine. This, again, is perfect for 2010 well groomed styles. Cream works better on thick or wavy hair than fine hair, although it can tame problem flyaway hair when used sparingly.

Make sure you team a classic hair cut with a classic wardrobe. Classic designers and brands are extremely fashionable this coming season so get yourself a pair of Armani Jeans, team it with a classic top and perfect the look!

The One for Men

The One For MenThe One for Men perfectly reflects the D&G man: charismatic and seductive, elegant and sophisticated, he loves taking care of himself. A modern hedonist who never passes by unobserved.

This is the mission statement for the Dolce&Gabbana fragrance for men represented by Matthew McConaughey and launched onto the market in 2008 as the men’s compliment to the women’s fragrance, The One.

Matthew McConaughey, US actor and star of films such as “The Wedding Planner”, “Sahara” and “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days” was an obvious choice for the face of the Dolce&Gabbana fragrance. Matthew is not only a critics and public choice for leading man in many romantic comedies, but is a serious actor with a well-established portfolio, shining reputation and a bright future in film. He is that image of a sexy, confident yet sensitive modern family man. As far as Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were concerned, they were looking for someone alluring, modern and with subtle sex appeal to represent their new fragrance, someone with character, elegance and worldwide appeal.

We dedicate The One for Men to the Dolce&Gabbana man: modern, sensual, cosmopolitan, attentive to caring for himself and his body. A man blessed with inborn charisma, self-confidence, and no fear in expressing his personality through the perfume he wears.”

Matthew perfectly fulfils this mission statement. Since its launch in 2008, The One for Men has won various awards including the Esquire Grooming Innovation Award, the FHM Best Fragrance for Night and Haute Couture’s Fragrance of the Year.

D&G describes the scent as “a spicy, oriental perfume developed on the harmony of tobacco with refined boisé notes”. It has an oriental style fruity, woody, tobacco essence with top notes of grapefruit, coriander and basil, combined with a centre of cardamom, ginger and orange blossom and amber & woody undertones.

The One for Men is available in Aftershave lotion, body lotion and moisturising aftershave cream. It also comes in both deodorant stick and a spray which gives a seductive veil of fragrance. The 200ml shower gel gives a light scent which lasts the whole day. You can also try The One for Men coffret which consists of the 50ml Eau do Toilette, 50ml Body Lotion and 50ml Shower Gel in a presentation box.

Other Dolce&Gabbana fragrances for men that are also worth sampling are Light Blue Pour Homme, Homme and D&G Anthology.

A Quick Overview of Collagen and Elastin Products

Collagen and elastin products are considered by many to be a modern day solution when it comes to battling the signs of skin ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. But do they really work? That is the important question. After all, some of these creams can be quite expensive and you would like to know if they are actually worked for you or not. The fact is the effectiveness of these products depends upon the active ingredients they have and most of the time the concentration of active ingredients differs from one product to another. For example, a moisturizer that uses a lower amount of a specific anti-ageing ingredient would not be as effective as the one that has the greater amount.

Collagen and elastin

Collagen and elastin are protein substances that are actually naturally produced by our bodies and are continuously regenerated by our tissue functions until the time we reach 25 years of age. Basically, when a person reaches the age of 25, the tissues lose their ability to regenerate these proteins thus decreasing their levels in our body. The decreased levels eventually lead to the signs of skin ageing. This is why many people try to stimulate collagen and elastin production by applying creams that are intended to help the body do this.

These creams, gels and lotions that supposedly contain enough collagen and elastin to help your body start producing more might not be living up to promise despite their claims. The market is crowded with skin care treatments. But if you do your research carefully, you will find one company whose products have the ability to increase collagen and elastin production in your skin. Furthermore, these products ensure that your skin retains hyaluronic acid. Without hyaluronic, collagen and elastin lose their glue properties and when that happens you look older. So why spend time and money on something that will keep you looking older when you can shop around and find quality creams and lotions that will improve your skin and make it younger.

Can you do more?

Yes, you can do much more. In order to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in your body again you will have to work inside out. The first thing you have to do is add more Vitamin C to your diet. This is because Vitamin C is actually an essential co-factor when it comes to the production of collagen in our bodies. A diet of healthy dark green vegetables should be very helpful, as well as red fruits such as pomegranates, beetroot and tomatoes. These stimulate collagen and elastin production with continuous consumption.

So there you have it. Your research starts here.

Good Reasons to Choose Parabens Free Cosmetics

There is plenty of debate around the subject of parabens which are used in cosmetics which we put on skin on a daily basis. Firstly what exactly are parabens? Parabens are a family of alkyl esters of para-hydroxybenzoic acid which are used by manufacturers to maintain freshness not only in cosmetics but also in food. Why has there been debate about them? This is because parabens have been proven to penetrate the skin and can be traced in blood minutes after application; therefore there are theories that they may have adverse effects on the body. People who are aware of the dangers opt for parabens free cosmetics of which there are many available these days on the market such as the Abahna range.

One study found that that out of 20 breast cancer patients 18 of them had parabens present in their breast tissue. The presence does not prove causality so the researcher has called for more studies to be done. Parabens enter also through the application of anti-antiperspirants which contain them. The thing is that they are not broken down by the digestive process and therefore it is not yet known the effect they have on the surrounding tissues.

Additionally parabens have showed estrogenic activity in numerous tests. What this means is that they are mimicking the body’s own hormones which can disrupt endocrine functions right throughout the body making the negative possibilities endless.

One of the parabens family – methylparaben – has been linked to the premature ageing of the skin. There was a study done in Japan which showed that certain cosmetic products may cause the skin to age excessively when exposed to ultra-violet rays however ironically this compound can be found in products which are designed and promoted to fight the effects of aging.

As well as use in cosmetics parabens are also used in food most often as colourings and to add flavour. They occur naturally in prunes, cinnamon and blueberries however are made synthetically for commercial use. You can find them in toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, face cream and lots of everyday products. The six parabens which are most commonly used are methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, and benzylparaben.

The big question is however do manufacturers really need to use parabens? Some organic cosmetic manufacturers answer no t this question. They use tinctures which are made from high quality organic herbs and organic grain alcohol which have a good shelf life of between two and three years.

There has been substantial progress made by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics which pressures the industry to phase out any chemicals which are known or suspected carcinogens, reproductive toxins or mutagens. In 2003 the EU has banned the use of these chemicals. In America the campaign has invited U.S. cosmetic companies to sign the “Compact for the Global Production of Safer Health and Beauty Products” and commit themselves to comply with the EU regulations however many industry leaders have not signed.

At the end of the day it is a personal decision for each individual however this article is written to raise awareness for some of the people who have not heard about parabens.

Jackie de Burca is passionate about highlighting the potential dangers of parabens. She has used many parabens free products of which there is a great choice and is delighted to have discovered the Abahna range. MadMolly stocks the Abahna range which offer a parabens free choice to our customers. It is a gorgeous range which includes a foam blending set where you can make your own bathing preparations. http://www.madmolly.co.uk/Abahna?c=166
